ASELSAN, a Turkish company with 40 years experience in defense electronics, is designing and developing 94 GHz, phased array and scalable SiGe integrated circuits for use as transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) modules in civil radar systems. Rx ICs will be ready in mid-2016, with Tx ICs following. These integrated circuits will allow ASELSAN to develop cost effective and high performance civil radars for applications such as border security, airport foreign object debris detection, collision avoidance, autonomous landing and meteorology. This will enable ASELSAN to expand its defense oriented product range to cover a broader spectrum, including civilian applications.
ASELSAN is the leading defense company in Turkey with more than $1 billion in annual revenue. ASELSAN is investing in designing and manufacturing critical components, such as SiGe ICs. Another example is ASELSAN’s investment in a GaN Foundry with Bilkent University, one of the leading universities in Turkey. This new foundry will be operational by the end of 2016 and will supply GaN transistors for ASELSAN’s indigenous radar and electronic warfare products.
