MAAP-015036Ideally suited for marine radar, weather, surface movement and military radar applications

Richardson RFPD Inc. announced the availability and full design support capabilities for a new 15 W X-band power amplifier from M/A-COM Technology Solutions.

The MAAP-015036 is a two-stage GaAs MMIC PA operating from 8.5 to 10.5 GHz, with a saturated pulsed output power of +42 dBm and a large signal gain of 17 dB. It uses GaAs pHEMT device technology and is based on optical gate lithography to ensure high repeatability and uniformity. The chip has surface passivation for protection and backside via holes and gold metallization to allow a conductive epoxy die attach process.

The MAAP-015036 is ideally suited for communications, point-to-point radio and radar applications, including marine radar, weather, surface movement and military radar.

According to MACOM, additional key features of the MAAP-015036 include:

  • Power added efficiency

o   45% (8.5–10.0 GHz, duty cycle = 5%, pulse = 5 μs)

o   43% (10.0–10.5 GHz, duty cycle = 5%, pulse = 5 μs)

  • Drain current: 4.8A (typical)
  • Dual-sided bias architecture
  • On-chip bias circuit

The MAAP-015036 is available in die form. Evaluation boards are available for both the direct gate bias option and the on-chip gate bias option.
