Lenovo and Google have entered into a definitive agreement under which Lenovo plans to acquire the Motorola Mobility smartphone business. With a strong PC business and a fast-growing smartphone business, this agreement will significantly strengthen Lenovo’s position in the smartphone market. In addition, Lenovo will gain a strong market presence in North America and Latin America, as well as a foothold in Western Europe, to complement its strong, fast-growing smartphone business in emerging markets around the world.

AWR Corp. has launched a fully redesigned AWR.TV portal directly from within its main website framework to enhance the viewing experience of AWR’s hundreds of demos and tutorial videos. ABI Research forecasts that a total of 1.95 billion NFC-enabled devices will ship in 2017 — a combination of both handsets and CE Devices. The lion’s share of NFC enablement will continue to be focused in the handset market, although we are expecting a surge of NFC functionality included within CE devices, for simple pairing of devices, exchange of data, and online authentication functionality. In total, 395 million CE devices will ship in 2017, predominantly into media tablets, PC accessories, and gaming consoles.

RF Micro Devices Inc. announced LG has selected RFMD to supply multiple components in support of the LG Optimus 4X HD and the Optimus 3D Max smartphones. LG's Optimus 4X HD and Optimus 3D Max are expected to be available globally in 2012.
