Title: Prototype 5G FR2 with the AMD Zynq™ RFSoC DFE and mmWave Phased Array
Date: November 9, 2023
Time: 8am PT / 11am ET
Sponsored by: Avnet and AMD
Presented by: Matthew Brown, Embedded Engineer, Avnet, David Brubaker, Sr. Product Line Manager for Zynq™ UltraScale+™ RFSoC, AMD and Fabricio Dourado, Senior Application Engineer for T&M Application Development, Rohde & Schwarz
Abstract:
This webinar introduces an integrated 5G FR2 phased array antenna-to-bits development system.
Engineers from AMD and Avnet describe this new platform, featuring the AMD Zynq™ RFSoC DFE with multi-channel direct-RF data converters and hardened IP, 5G NR signal generation in MATLAB®, and beamforming through the Fujikura FutureAccess™ mmWave phased array antenna module. To prove this is not “science fiction”, we are joined by test experts from Rohde & Schwarz to demonstrate automated OTA measurements using their R&S®ATS800B CATR benchtop antenna test system.
Presenter Bios:
Matthew Brown is a member of Avnet Embedded working in the Advanced Applications Group to speed prototype and deployment of 5G/Satcom systems, pairing AMD RFSoC radio-on-chip with MATLAB and Simulink from MathWorks.
David Brubaker is the Product Line Manager for the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC where he is responsible for managing the early phase of Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC products including NPI and customer engagements.
David has held leadership, technical and marketing roles in several large companies focusing on 3G, 4G and 5G wireless infrastructure including FPGA, ASIC and ASSP solutions. Earlier in his career he held RF and wireless engineering leadership positions in several companies.
David is a member of the IEEE and holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University and Bachelor’s degree in Physics from San Diego State University.
Fabrício Dourado is a senior application engineer at the Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) Headquarters in Munich, Germany. He joined the company in 1996 and worked in various test and measurement product marketing and technical support roles for Europe, the Americas, and Asia. He primarily focused on Asia from 2001 to 2019, regularly meeting customers and system integrators, sharing our experiences, and involving them in the R&S process to further develop products and automated test systems.
He started specializing in mobile radio and production line remote control testing. Later, component tests up to 500GHz, multi-port network analysis, and radio front-ends (RFFE) test. Fabrício joined the R&S Test & Measurement Application Development in April 2020, focusing on 5G-NR, automotive radar, and over-the-air (OTA) testing. Before joining R&S, he worked at the Institute of Materials Research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne, automating the Hall facility for semiconductor thermoelectric characterization. He holds a degree in electronics engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
