Tampa or Bust!
Well, it’s that time of year again, when many of us turn our attention toward the MTTS-IMS show. Besides all the technical sessions and New Product Introductions that many of us look forward to, the rare opportunity to see one another face-to-face is highly anticipated. Our mass convergence on Tampa this year will be no exception. While the Microwave universe is a comparatively small one, we are spread widely across the country and globe. For this reason, we eagerly await the chance to meet up at the IMS show year after year.
Finding the Missing Link
Increasingly, we stay in touch throughout the rest of the year via Linked In. For example our company, Transline Technology, sponsors a very specific group for those in the wireless industry who design and fabricate PCBs. It is called the RF/MW and High Performance PCB Design and Fab group. We have grown to approximately 1100 members to date, several of whom we have the pleasure of meeting in person each year at the IMS show. It is a peculiar experience to meet fellow group members for the first time—yet have the sense of being reunited with old friends. It is indeed a brave new world and this is how our far-flung pack of microwave professionals choose to stay connected these days.
To capitalize on the opportunity to meet many of our otherwise “virtual” friends in person at IMS this year, we have decided to host a Linked in group Meet-Up. We will be doing this in conjunction with the RF and Microwave Group Meet-up sponsored by Microwave Journal, whose group boasts over 22,000 members to date.
IMS Meet-up details
The Meet-up will be held Monday, June 2 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm in the Champions Bar located in the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (IMS host hotel) that is right across the street from the Tampa Convention Center. We will put a sign on our group of tables so you know where we are located.
Why attend?
There are many reasons why you ought to add this to your “must-do” list for Tampa. First and foremost, it is a great opportunity to meet fellow RF/Microwave professionals from all over the country and world. Even our illustrious IMS chairman, Larry Dunleavy, has agreed to try his best to attend—although no promises can be made, of course, due to his demanding schedule. In addition to rubbing shoulders with some amazing people, Microwave Journal has agreed to buy the first 15-20 attendees a cold beer, glass of wine or a soft drink of choice. Peregrine semiconductor thought this was such a great idea that they offered to co-sponsor the event and throw in another 15-20 beverages! Transline Technology will be hosting a raffle for a Kindle Paperwhite for all in attendance as well. Thin Film Technology Corp will contribute appitizers for the group.
