 NIWeek2015 was another exciting event with some of the best keynote talks you will hear anywhere. I was able to live broadcast some video snippets from the keynotes using the app Periscope (see my Twitter feed for links to them - @pathindle). Some of the biggest hits were the Berlin heart, autonomous sod excavator and augment reality, real-time instrumented bicycle.  

NI, the provider of platform-based systems that enable engineers and scientists to solve the world’s greatest engineering challenges, released the Wireless Test System (WTS), a solution that dramatically lowers the cost of high-volume wireless manufacturing test. Although faced with the rising complexity of wireless test, companies can confidently reduce test costs and multiply throughput on the production floor with a system optimized for measurement speed and parallel test.

According to ABI Research the increasing adoption of IoT within industrial settings will result in a substantial growth of the number of connected industrial devices, in particular industrial control devices like PLCs. The research firm estimates that over the period from 2014 to 2020, the number of connected industrial controllers will triple; growing at an average rate of 20 percent. 

IBM announced that it will invest $3 billion over the next four years to establish a new Internet of Things (IoT) unit, and that it is building a cloud-based open platform designed to help clients and ecosystem partners build IoT solutions.

GSMA Mobile World Congress 2015 broke records with more than 93,000 attends from 200 countries. The first day started off with a bang as NXP and Freescale announced that they plan to merge. Read the complete show review.
