Starting with the January 2014 issue, Microwave Journal will be the first publication in the industry to apply this technology by implementing interactive pages that use the augmented reality app Layar. This exciting new technology brings print pages to life by overlaying digital information to give the reader a more immersive and engaging experience.

As we enter December, the MWJ editorial staff is currently busy preparing for next year’s first quarter with contributions from the industry’s leading engineers and scientists. Thanks to their research (and writing), we will be able to keep our readers updated on the latest microwave technologies being introduced. Communication and defense systems continue to proliferate and grow in capability. Thanks to the hard work and creativity of engineers throughout the industry, 2014 should be another banner year for component development and the systems they support.

I hope that all of our readers who celebrate Thanksgiving had an enjoyable holiday. As always, the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas and then New Year’s is a hectic time for most people in both their personal and business lives. The MWJ team is busy working with authors on 2014 articles and with clients, planning next year’s marketing programs. Our 2014 media kit outlines the portfolio of print and electronic products available, and we have products to meet just about all of your marketing requirements.

Well here we are again. Another calendar year drawing to an end, winter and the holiday season are just around the corner and the Journal staff is busy putting the wraps on 2013 and preparing for next year. With much of our editorial already lined up for the first quarter, the industry has once again proved that RF/microwave technology and applications continue to evolve rapidly.  The 2014 outlook looks good for component manufacturers addressing advanced radar and communication systems.

I write this while basking in the glory of the recent Red Sox World Series game 6 victory over the St Louis Cardinals. I was one of the 38,477 fortunate fans in Fenway Park to witness the Sox’ third World Championship in ten years and it was truly an amazing experience. It had been 95 years since the Red Sox last won the series at Fenway and it was a special night indeed. Congratulations to all of Red Sox Nation, and to non-Sox fans, “there’s always next year”.
