National Instruments released NI Trend Watch 2014, which summarizes the latest technology trends to help engineers meet evolving demands and integrate the ever-increasing power of technology into their work. The inaugural report examines a range of topics — from cyber-physical systems to the “SDR-ification” of RF instruments.

Skyworks Solutions Inc. an innovator of high performance analog semiconductors enabling a broad range of end markets, announced that is has captured high-reliability (hi-rel) and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) sockets with several aerospace and defense suppliers such as Cobham, EADS, Herley and Teledyne.  Skyworks’ solutions are being leveraged for microwave switching, attenuation, receiver protection and mixer and detector applications in commercial and military radios, avionics systems, software defined radios and navigation platforms that support major tier-one aerospace and defense companies such as Boeing, L-3 Communications, Northrup Grumman and Raytheon.

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) is a term confined to indoor positioning presented on mobile/cell phones, or the like, to create added value services. For example, the derivatives of smart phones taking the form of glasses or eyepieces will have the ability to superimpose all manner of information across the items being viewed.

Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced Agilent EEsof EDA’s Controlled Impedance Line Designer. The software product quickly and accurately optimizes stack up and line geometry for multigigabit-per-second chip-to-chip links, using the most relevant metric.

Raytheon signed a contract with BAE Systems to provide South Korea integrated AESA radar, electronic warfare, mission computing technologies and weapon systems integration. 

EDI CON 2014 has announced that Dr. Song Junde, professor at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, will serve as the chairman emeritus of the second annual technical conference and trade exposition focused on RF, microwave and high-speed digital design. Junde, who held the role of honorary chair for the inaugural EDI CON in March of 2013, will once again provide guidance to the event organizers and technical program planning committee in the development of a technical conference focused on advancing microwave technology and the communications industry in China.
