5G Americas, the industry trade association and voice of 5G and LTE for the Americas, announced that LTE continued its impressive momentum in North Americas, Latin America and throughout the world.  The association reported mobile subscriber data for the third quarter of 2016 which included significant regional milestones for LTE according to data and forecasts by Ovum.

xG Technology Inc. (xG) business unit Integrated Microwave Technologies (IMT), a leader in advanced digital microwave systems serving the law enforcement, broadcast, sports and entertainment markets, announced it has received a $450,000 order from a state investigation bureau located in the South Atlantic region (“ the Bureau”) for the IMT Airborne Video Downlink System (AVDS).

Microsemi Corp. announced six new monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) products, including four wideband low noise MMIC amplifiers (MMA040AA, MMA041AA, MMA043AA and MMA044AA) and two wideband GaAs MMIC switches (MMS006AA and MMS008AA). The new MMIC products are ideally suited for test and measurement, electronic warfare and radar applications.

Resonant Inc. will develop up to four temperature compensated (TC) SAW filters for an existing first tier customer, under a new development and licensing agreement the company announced. These designs are the first Resonant will do using a TC-SAW process.

Millitech, a microwave brand of Smiths Interconnect, announced the release of a new gallium nitride (GaN) based power amplifiers with exceptional output power and power-added efficiency (PAE) at E-Band and W-Band. Offering up to 2.5 W of output power and up to 20% PAE, typical gain figures range from 15 to 40 dB. 

The role of laser technology in the manufacturing of electronic components and products continues to grow. For instance, more than 20 different laser processes are used in the production of smartphones, such as for structuring thin layers, for producing three-dimensional conductor structures on plastic bodies, and for cutting glass and printed circuit boards. For these applications, the importance of short-pulse and ultrashort-pulse lasers is continually rising. The joint project “(U)SP Laser Beam Sources for Industrial Use and System-wide Productivity Improvement for Highly Dynamic Drilling and Cutting Applications” (InBUS) focuses on increasing efficiency, available output power, and flexibility of these laser sources.

Eight months after committing to bring Fios FTTH to Boston, Verizon announced parts of Dorchester, Roslindale and West Roxbury can sign up for internet, TV and phone services, with data rates up to 500 Mbps up and down.

Richardson RFPD  announced that Weinschel brand products are now included in its distribution agreement with API Technologies Corp. Effective immediately, Richardson RFPD will offer the Weinschel brand products to its global customers, along with the full line of API standard, configurable and custom RF, microwave and microelectronics products that Richardson RFPD has distributed since 1997, including antennas, power amplifiers, high-performance filters, thin film chip resistors, mixers and passive components.

Keysight Technologies Inc., with the University of California San Diego (www.ece.ucsd.edu) announced the world’s longest bidirectional phased-array link in the 60 GHz band. At a link distance of 300 m, the 32-element array achieved a data rate of greater than 2 Gbps over all scan angles up to ±45 degrees. Data rates were 4 Gbps at 100 m and 500 Mbps at 800 m over most scan angles. Initial tests by a leading wireless provider suggest the system can deliver content to eight homes at a time at up to 300 m.
