ViaSat Inc. has received orders in excess of $11 million for Joint IP Modem Network Control Centers (NCCs), remote modems, and Joint IP Modem enhancements. These production contracts enable the Department of Defense to complete its roll out of interoperable network services to warfighters from teleports and Strategic Tactical Entry Points (STEPs). In addition, the orders include further development of the Joint IP Modem to enable efficient regional connectivity within a larger global network footprint. These awards follow successfully deliveries against previous contract obligations.

Greater adoption of mobile broadband modems in portable and mobile computing and the rollout of 4G networks have not been enough to overcome a downturn in USB modem shipment volumes.  New data analysis released from market intelligence firm ABI Research finds that 49 million mobile broadband modems shipped in PC and Consumer Electronics devices worldwide during the first half of 2012.

Newtec has successfully tested its new high speed Ka-Band technology for SES Broadband Services. The test was completed with next generation Ka-Band Sat3Play^® terminals, which feature download speeds beyond 10 Mbps, and related hub infrastructure including a new high speed modem and outdoor unit.
