In line with its strategy to enhance its global footprint, Rohde & Schwarz has announced plans to significantly expand its scope of activities in Asia to include development, production and supply chain logistics. As a first step of this new strategy, the Singapore engineering subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz Systems and Communications Asia Pte. Ltd. will be renamed as Rohde & Schwarz Asia Pte. Ltd.
"The establishment of Rohde & Schwarz Asia will give us greater flexibility, more proximity to our customers and competitive advantages," said Manfred Fleischmann, President and CEO of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG. "With RS Asia, the company also wants to strengthen its presence in Asia beyond sales and customer support. We live from innovation, and finding excellent people is critical. As insiders in Asia, we can have access to the pool of outstanding Asian talent."
For this reason, the company started up development some years ago by hiring young talent and cooperating with local universities in Asia to develop products for the Asian market. Now, to bring about greater synergy between development and production, the company will also develop and produce instruments locally for the worldwide market. "This is, according to experience, advantageous for a high-tech company such as ours and it’s something we’ve done in Germany ever since Rohde & Schwarz was founded," said Fleischmann.
The company has a global presence and a dedicated service network in over 70 countries, including 14 countries in Asia. For more than 13 years, RSSAC in Singapore has been active as a system house for the Asian market. It has developed more than 2,000 systems worth several hundred million Euro. The systems are installed, supported and serviced in Asia.
Rohde & Schwarz Asia will be headed by Lim Boon Huat, formerly Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Systems & Communications Asia. Sales, service and support in Asia/Pacific, and the support of the regional offices, will remain the responsibility of Rohde & Schwarz Regional Headquarters in Singapore under the direction of Erich Freund, Managing Director Asia/Pacific.
