A major new £35 M EADS Defence and Security (DS) Centre has been opened in Newport, Wales, underlining the company’s commitment to a high-tech knowledge-based economy in the UK. As a result, 400 high-calibre employees now have an environment that truly reflects the leading-edge nature of the projects they are working on, together with the capacity to meet future expansion plans, which include over 100 additional positions and new technology suites.

With the support of the Welsh Assembly Government, EADS DS is now a world-leading knowledge-led operation able to integrate large-scale systems in the most complex environments. The company anticipates growth of more than 25 percent over the next few years, from both its traditional defence activities and also by addressing civil security needs.

The new centre is on the same site as EADS UK’s Innovation Works business, which currently concentrates on technology for advanced secure communications, simulation of complex systems, software engineering, and advanced wing design and manufacture. Within two years that operation will have built a cadre of 120 to 150 engineers, and scientists who will spearhead the company’s advanced technology efforts within the UK.
