Saab Microwave Canada Ltd. has been awarded a service contract for support, repair and overhaul of the Canadian Navy’s Sea GIRAFFE 150 HC, a surveillance radar installed on the Halifax Class Frigates. Saab has been a service partner to the Canadian Navy since the early 1990s and this new contract is a renewal and extension of previous service contracts that is set to secure a high level of support for years to come.
The contract is worth approximately €16 M, and includes repair and overhaul of 14 Sea GIRAFFE 150 HC surveillance radar over six years, during which Saab Microwave Canada will provide the Canadian Navy with individual radar component repairs, complete system overhauls, and associated technical support and management.
The fully owned Saab company, Saab Microwave Canada Ltd., is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Its director, Johan Klintberg, commented, "We are very pleased that the Canadian Navy has selected us for continued support, and by this we see further potential for strengthening our activities in Halifax."
Commenting more broadly, Lennart Joelsson, senior vice president and managing director for Saab Microwave Systems, added, "We consider Canada to be a very interesting market, and we see excellent opportunities for new radar systems as well as support, training, maintenance and spare parts management."
