Telsima announced that the company's Indian WiMAX Rollout was awarded the Best of WiMAX World USA 2007 Award for its StarMAX Solution in the WiMAX World Digital Cities Deployment category by the xchange magazine.
The annual awards were presented in a late evening award ceremony on September 26 at the WiMAX World Conference held at Chicago on Sept. 25-27, and recognized leaders in the development and deployment of WiMAX technologies. In its second year, the awards received more than 80 submissions and Telsima pipped at the post several strong contenders to establish its leadership.
Telsima has established leadership position in WiMAX by enabling multi-city rollouts for Tier 1 operators, including, Reliance Communications and Tata-VSNL in India. The WiMAX rollouts, with thousands of base station sectors already shipped, support several advanced functionalities, like, MIMO & STC Antenna Diversity in support of NLOS deployments. The equipment installed in rollouts covers WiMAX Forum Certified Telsima BS StarMAX 4120, 6100 and 6400 and SS StarMAX 2140 and 2150.
Dr Alok Sharma, CEO Telsima, on receiving the award says, "This top drawer win not only reaffirms our faith in our innovative products and solutions but winning this award also confirms our belief that Telsima today has staked the largest WiMAX projects worldwide. We consider each of these projects not only to be the largest, but also that they each have the potential to stay the largest deployments in the future, considering the dire need for communication and broadband Internet infrastructure in India a country with over 8 million new mobile phone subscribers per month! Based on the experience and proof points from these large deployments, we see Telsima well positioned to expand its WiMAX footprint across global markets. We thank Trendsmedia and xchange for recognizing us and for fostering a spirit of excellence in the WiMAX community."
Protip Ghose, VP Sales & Marketing APAC, Telsima says, "We are proud that we have a system solution that not only beat all other market leaders during the trial and pilot phases, but now in real life operation, has met Tier 1 requirements all the way. Telsima's WiMAX Forum Certified, award-winning StarMAX product line had proven superior performance and feature-sets at all times, supporting our customers' business cases, with several advanced features including StarMAX MIMO antenna diversity that provides better coverage for residential users, or low-latency DSL-type download speeds for select Enterprise customers. Telsima's major strength lies in supporting operators' business needs with market leading solutions for their present requirements and with a propelling migration path to standards-based Mobile WiMAX. All StarMAX base stations support D+E Dual Mode, a solution that will enable Reliance and VSNL to efficiently migrate to 802.16e-2005 based infrastructure. The Telsima TRUFLE architecture ensures a seamless migration of the ASN and its services from Fixed/Nomadic mobility to metro- and nationwide-roaming."
"xchange is pleased to acknowledge Telsima's contributions to the development and promotion of WiMAX technology and services," said Mike Saxby, publisher of xchange. "WiMAX success is dependent upon sustained innovation of companies like Telsima that will no doubt be rewarded in the marketplace but also deserve recognition by the community it supports."
Eliot Weinman, conference co-chair added, "On behalf of WiMAX World, I congratulate Telsima for winning this year's WiMAX World USA Award in WiMAX World Digital Cities Deployment. WiMAX World Awards winners truly represent the best and brightest WiMAX technology, services and network implementations in the world."
The winners were selected by an independent judging panel, including Craig Mathias, principal, Farpoint Group; Will Strauss, principal analyst, Forward Concepts; Adlane Fellah, CEO and founder, Maravedis Inc.; Caroline Gabriel, lead research analyst, Rethink Research; Philip Marshall, vice president of enabling technologies, Yankee Group; James Farstadt, founder and president, rClient LLC; Michael Khalilian, chairman and president, IMS Forum; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.
Telsima recently announced that it will be shipping a total of 10,000 WiMAX Forum certified base station sectors and 100,000 WiMAX subscriber stations in 2007 for Tier I operators in India and other countries. Additionally, Telsima is showcasing its recently announced line of standards-based, IEEE 802.16e-2005 compliant, Mobile WiMAX solution at the WiMAX World event at Chicago. This complete solution includes ASN-GW, TRUFLE ASN-CS, Mobile WiMAX Macro and Pico base stations, Tier 1 proven Network Management System, Indoor and Outdoor Modems and PC Cards.
Telsima has also developed a new architecture called TRUFLE ASN for migration to Mobile WiMAX networks for those operators who have a need to serve fixed and mobile users within the same WiMAX network. TRUFLE ASN allows operators to profitably operate 802.16e network with fixed and mobile users and to migrate to a fully Mobile WiMAX network based on their business needs. This new architecture is NWG compatible allowing operators to upgrade the network to Profile A or C compliant Mobile WiMAX, while leveraging their initial infrastructure investment.
