Diversified Technologies Inc., a developer and manufacturer of high voltage, high power equipment, turned over an upgrade for the Cobra Judy S-band precision data collection radar system to the US Air Force, which is on board and operated by the USNS Observation Island.
The Cobra Judy S-band Transmitter Upgrade consists of new transmitters to drive 16 TWTs that provide RF power for the Cobra Judy S-band phased-array radar system.
Featuring eight 150 kW, 45 kV switching high voltage power supplies, solid-state modulators, and a full control and fault monitoring system, this upgrade follows the successful X-band radar transmitter upgrade completed by Diversified Technologies in 2003.
“This upgrade consists of replacing obsolete vacuum tube technology with all solid-state transmitters for higher reliability and longer life, and was fully integrated with other systems on board the ship,” said Michael Kempkes, VP of marketing at Diversified Technologies Inc.
