Filtronic announced at the end of 2023 a new contract with BAE Systems is for the supply of RF electronic modules.
The contract was awarded by BAE Maritime Services. Product qualification started at the end of calendar year 2023, with the product being supplied over the next 24 months.
Filtronic was successful in a collaboration with PRFI — a leading UK-based technical design consultancy providing services to design and develop MMICs. Filtronic was responsible for developing advanced packaging for the MMICs that was optimised both thermally and for RF performance.
“The RF modules will be subject to extremely demanding conditions,” explained Jerry Sanham, director of business development at Filtronic. “This is a challenge Filtronic is well equipped to solve. We have a proven track record for successfully delivering high-reliability RF components and sub-systems for complex thermal applications. Filtronic already supplies advanced microwave filter solutions to BAE Systems, but we’re excited to showcase our expertise further.”
“PRFI has a successful history of working with Filtronic and BAE,” said PRFI CEO Liam Devlin. “We are excited about working with Filtronic to deliver a best-in-class solution from a sovereign supply chain for BAE Systems.”
Projects like this are in line with the U.K. Government’s strategy to build out the nation’s sovereign capabilities. Thanks to its connections with various associations, such as Make UK and the North East Advanced Material Electronics cluster, Filtronic is part of a successful SME network, putting the company in an excellent position to foster a collaborative partnership for this project and many more.
