Calian Group Ltd., a diverse solutions company, providing innovative healthcare, communications, learning and cybersecurity products and services, has announced that Calian Advanced Technologies (AT) was selected by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to receive $520,000 in funding to further develop RF over IP technology.
RF over IP is the ability to digitize and transport RF signals over an IP network without data loss, removing many limitations found in analog RF. This emerging technology enables new services and capabilities within the ground station and satellite network that were not possible in the analog approach. Calian AT will build prototypes and conduct testing in our manufacturing facility, including field trials over a satellite.
“We are proud to be selected by the CSA to further develop this important new digital technology that moves us toward virtual ground systems and cloud solutions,” said Patrick Thera, president, AT. “We are fortunate to be a Canadian company with access to funding opportunities like this award from the CSA. This award reinforces our position as a leader in the Canadian space industry.”
“RF over IP technology means satellite ground stations no longer need to be limited by the short distances analog RF signals can travel before degrading,” said Peter Waskowic, vice president, Satcom Products. “Eliminating these barriers opens a world of possibilities for the satellite industry with Calian on the leading edge.”
Looking ahead, these funds allow Calian to continue harnessing and developing RF over IP technology as a more robust and reliable solution over traditional analog methods. Calian stays committed to evolving ground station RF performance and to implementing these advanced solutions worldwide.
