The Munich-based technology company Rohde & Schwarz is laying the foundation for further development and production of cutting-edge technologies in Germany with its ambitious large-scale "Neubau-Süd" project. The company is investing more than EUR 60 million in the project at its Memmingen location. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 6, 2023, with completion scheduled for mid-2024.
At the Rohde & Schwarz location in Memmingen, Germany, a current workforce of around 1800 employees is advancing development and production of leading-edge technologies for a secure and connected world. The construction of a state-of-the-art technology and production center with 18,000 square meters of floor space demonstrates the clear commitment Rohde & Schwarz has made to Germany as a business location. With its investment project, the privately owned company will make a valuable contribution to securing jobs for highly qualified personnel in the Allgäu business region over the long term.
"The construction of the new building in Memmingen underscores our strategy of in-house development and production in Germany. Our high degree of vertical integration and close proximity of development to production have always proven to be factors in our success. This approach allows us to offer our customers not only cutting-edge technology, but also a high level of security and reliability," said Christian Leicher, president and CEO of Rohde & Schwarz.
The employees working in Memmingen and Teisnach manufacture most of the product range in-house. This high degree of vertical integration not only ensures the very highest quality but also the greatest possible supply security in times of stressed supply chains. This corporate philosophy has proven effective for decades.
The "Neubau Süd" project underscores the privately owned company’s ambition as an expanding high-tech employer in the region. Michael Dill, plant manager in Memmingen, added, "The investment by Rohde & Schwarz will strengthen the Memmingen location over the long term, which is something we are obviously delighted about." The company plans to continue growing and recruit additional staff there. "Our very strong growth is driving demand for dozens of new employees, especially in development and production," says Michael Dill.
