I recently had the pleasure of presenting at a Media Day event for a major client. It is a welcome opportunity for any person involved in sales: being able to be face-to-face with a client to present your brand and to discuss ways that your products can help the client to meet their needs.
Part of the presentation involved a review of the clients’ past year’s program and while preparing, it struck me how well this particular client utilized the integrated marketing strategy. They maintain a monthly print presence in the magazine, a banner ad web presence, newsletter sponsorship, white papers, webinars, custom email deployments and video. For major launches, they use creative inserts and outserts to the magazine to deliver a physical message to the readers. It’s an impressive and effective marketing program.
Now I realize that most companies don’t have the luxury of a marketing budget the size of this client. However, even with a limited budget, you can create an integrated program to meet your marketing goals. I have watched our sales team work with clients to design cost-effective programs that combine branding and lead-generation components with excellent results. If you are still working on your plan, I encourage you to collaborate with your MWJ representative to discuss our latest offerings for 2015 and what worked best in 2014.
Speaking of next year, our 2015 media kit and editorial calendar are available for your review. Please note that the two major show issues, for IMS and EuMW have changed months based on the earlier show dates for each. The IEEE MTT-S IMS show issue will be April, while the European Microwave Week show issue will be August. Also, we have added a new supplement in May on “Aerospace & Defense Electronics,” to compliment our September “Military Microwaves” supplement. Another addition to our portfolio is a new video platform, which allows sponsors to upload and curate unlimited videos. This program will be supported by a monthly newsletter highlighting the latest offerings and driving traffic to the videos, along with inclusion in Microwave FLASH and promotion in the magazine.
We are currently working on the January issue of the magazine, which has an editorial focus on “Radar and Antennas” and bonus distribution at DesignCon (Santa Clara, CA), IDGA Military Radar Summit (Washington, DC) and GOMACTech (St. Louis, MO). The deadline to reserve ad space is December 15th, with ad material due by December 17th.
Lastly, the EDICON China event is moving along nicely. The “Call for Papers” deadline has just passed, with a record number of submissions and the exhibition floor is nearly sold out. The event has moved to the new CNCC venue and the exhibition has grown by 50 percent from this past April’s event in Beijing. If you are looking to expand your presence in China, EDICON is the place.
Wishing all of our readers a wonderful holiday season.
Regards,
Carl Sheffres
