Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced  two new high-performance portable oscilloscope series deploying next-generation oscilloscope technology. The Infiniium S?Series sets a new standard for signal integrity for bandwidths up to 8 GHz, while the InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series sets a new standard for price/performance with bandwidths up to 6 GHz.

See a short video overview of the new oscilloscopes at www.agilent.com/find/newstandard.

The Infiniium S-Series has the world’s fastest 10-bit ADC. Compared with traditional scopes with 8-bit ADCs, the S-Series has four times the vertical resolution for precise viewing of signal detail. Coupled with a new low-noise front end, the S-Series delivers an ENOB (effective number of bits) for the system of more than eight, the highest in the industry. The series includes bandwidths from 500 MHz to 8 GHz with four-channel DSO models and 16-digital-channel MSO models. Standard memory is 50 Mpts per channel or 100 Mpts per channel when interleaved, the deepest in the industry.

The S-Series features the industry’s most comprehensive application-specific measurement software, fueled by a powerful motherboard with 8-GB RAM, ensuring the scope stays responsive in all operating modes. Fast boot-up time and increased reliability is made possible with its solid-state drive. The 15-inch (38.1-cm) multitouch capacitive display is the largest in the industry, making it easier to see results and easier to use.  Agilent also provides options for integrating MATLAB capabilities directly into the oscilloscopes, further increasing their measurement and analysis power for customers.

The new InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series is the first oscilloscope to offer 6 GHz bandwidth starting at $29,500, less than half the price of competitors’ oscilloscopes with comparable bandwidths. The new lineup includes 2- and 4-channel DSO models and MSO models with 16 digital channels and with bandwidths from 1 GHz to 6 GHz at 20-GS/s sample rate. The 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes offer these capabilities for the first time in an oscilloscope of this size. Its weight of 6.8 kg (15 lbs.) and depth of 15 cm (6 inches) are one-third of similar bandwidth products on the market today, setting a new standard for portability in multi-GHz-bandwidth oscilloscopes.

The 6000 X-Series visualization experience starts with a 12.1-inch multitouch capacitive touchscreen. It lets engineers visualize and isolate more anomalies with its 450,000-waveform-per-second update rate and the hardware InfiniiScan Zone touch trigger. For the first time in an oscilloscope with an embedded operating system, the InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series offers a jitter and real-time eye diagram analysis option that provides an intuitive but powerful way to visualize jitter and eye diagrams of digital signals in embedded designs. Used with the standard color grade and histogram features, it augments engineers’ characterization and debugging efficiency. Also for the first time, localized voice control in 14 languages allows precise scope control and signal visualization while an engineer’s hands are occupied.

The Agilent InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series extends instrument integration to six instruments in one: oscilloscope, logic analyzer (MSO), protocol analyzer, dual-channel WaveGen function/arbitrary waveform generator, digital voltmeter, and for the first time in any oscilloscope, a 10-digit counter totalizer. The new 10-digit counter has 3.2-GHz bandwidth, and the totalizer counts trigger-qualified events in addition to edges.

“Customers working on higher-speed digital designs and RF embedded designs can choose between these two new oscilloscope platforms, depending on their needs and budget,” said Jay Alexander, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Oscilloscope and Protocol Division. “Both series offer excellent signal integrity, signal visualization and analysis capability, and significant usability innovation to help engineers overcome their debugging challenges.”

For general-purpose, high-speed differential probing with the Infiniium S-Series oscilloscopes, today Agilent also introduces the new InfiniiMax III+ probing solutions, including 4-GHz, 8-GHz and 13-GHz differential active probes and new QuickTip accessories for InfiniiMax probes. The InfiniiMax III+ probes work with the full array of InfiniiMax III probe heads, including a wide range of solder-in probe heads, a browser head, ZIF (zero insertion force) tips, 2.92-mm/3.5-mm/SMA heads and the new QuickTip head.
