According to Sky Light Research, Alcatel led in market revenue for point-to-point microwave radio sales in North America for the first quarter of 2006 with 33 percent of revenue in the region. This development comes as the company's strong momentum in delivering mission critical microwave communications networks continues with cellular operators, and is accelerating rapidly in the public safety sector. A key factor is that microwave radio technology is a natural choice for the critical infrastructure used in public safety solutions to improve data transmission and quality of service, enabling faster emergency response and increased public safety for local communities.

Emphasizing this fact, Tom Eggemeier, vice president and general manager for Alcatel's wireless transmission activities in North America, said, "Alcatel has always been a leader in microwave radio communications and our number one market position validates our recent successes with such customers as Hampton Roads and the state of New York."

For Sky Light Research, Emmy Johnson, the company’s founder and principal analyst, commented, "The trend in the microwave radio market in North America has continued to evolve with the revival in wireless communications spending and companies like Alcatel are leveraging this movement with new product introductions and strategic customer wins."
