Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) introduced an RF clock IC, (radio frequency clock integrated circuit) with the industry’s lowest jitter for communications and instrumentation equipment that requires high-speed data conversion and optimum SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) performance. The AD9525 RF clock IC achieves absolute broadband rms (root-mean square) jitter of 83-fs (1-kHz to 100-MHz offset range), at 245.76 MHz, including jitter contribution from the external VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator). The new RF clock IC supports up to a 3.6-GHz output speed that is nearly three times faster than competing clocks. The combination of high speed and low jitter is especially important for applications such as instrumentation and defense electronics where exceptionally clean clock synthesis is required for data conversion operations in the GSPS (billions of samples per second) range.
