Munich, June 2, 2008 – Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) and Rohde & Schwarz have partnered to provide a highly optimised test solution for the industry. The solution is designed for customers who develop and manufacture WiMAX mobile stations and terminals, PC cards, and media-rich hand-held devices.
Together with FME, Rohde & Schwarz has developed a customised, automatic alignment and verification test solution based on the R&S CMW270 WiMAX one-box tester. This enables mobile WiMAX System-on-Chip (SoC) customers to conduct tests of their WiMAX devices easily and cost-effectively.
Manufacturers can now align transmitter and receiver functions such as frequency response and linearity automatically instead of manually. In addition, the measurement speed of the R&S CMW270 is up to ten times higher than that of existing test solutions. Together, these two features deliver quick ramp-up of the production line and maximum throughput.
Fujitsu Mobile WiMAX solution MB86K21 delivers high performance and extensive features combined with low power consumption. The device fully complies with IEEE 802.16e-2005, and incorporates highly-integrated, scalable1024 FFT OFDMA PHY and full MAC processors; adaptive modulation schemes including 64QAM, 16QAM and QPSK; and an interface for MIMO RF modules – all in a small-footprint FBGA package. With the Fujitsu MB86K21 mobile WiMAX SoC and R&S CMW270 WiMAX tester, WiMAX device manufacturers can quickly build a competitive test platform to test their new designs.
The R&S CMW270 combines signal generation and signal analysis in a single box for production-line emulation of a base station. Now the two companies have ported the Fujitsu SoC’s testing scheme into the R&S CMW270 and fully optimised it for automated testing. Fujitsu can offer its customers the most cost-effective test solution for RF testing and for calibration and signalling testing such as network connection.
