TRADE NEWS: Agilent Technologies Ships Electromagnetic Design System that Makes Full 3D EM Simulation Accessible to All High-Frequency Circuit Designers
PALO ALTO, Calif., July 13, 2006 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the availability of its Electromagnetic Design System (EMDS) for high-frequency RF and microwave circuit designers. Priced compatibly with typical circuit simulators, EMDS makes full 3D electromagnetic simulation accessible to high-frequency designers everywhere. "With EMDS, we are making electromagnetic analysis available to every high-speed, high-frequency circuit designer," said Neil Martin, marketing and services manager with Agilent's EEsof EDA division. "Electromagnetic simulation is no longer only an expensive luxury for EM software gurus. Our strategy is to make EM simulation as common and accessible as circuit simulation, and at a fraction of the typical cost." With the explosion of high-frequency designs, circuit designers recognize more than ever the benefits of accounting for 3D EM effects when designs include passive structures. But because the high-end 3D EM simulators on the market demand a much higher price than common circuit-simulation tools, RF and microwave engineers have often skipped the EM analysis step, relying instead on "best guesses" regarding 3D EM effects on circuit performance. Agilent's overall EM strategy takes into account the growing and changing needs of today's circuit designers. The resulting product, EMDS, allows analysis and visualization of EM effects that provide insight into the performance of high-frequency RF circuit designs such as component-level bond wires, connectors, packages, machined parts and antennas. Designers use EMDS to make informed decisions and adjustments to designs before physical prototyping begins, reducing or eliminating costly design iterations, and saving months in a typical product-development cycle. This first shipping release of EMDS provides basic design-flow integration with Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS), allowing users to bring layout designs from ADS into EMDS for full 3D analysis. Agilent plans to include increasing levels of integration with ADS and with the company's GENESYS environment. Agilent's ADS offers a complete set of front-to-back simulation and layout tools and instrument links for RF and microwave IC design in a single, integrated design flow. GENESYS, from the former Eagleware-Elanix product line, is a single, integrated electronic design automation environment for RF and microwave applications.
