U.S. DOT Advances Deployment of Connected Vehicle Technology to Prevent Crashes

Citing an enormous potential to reduce crashes on U.S. roadways, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a proposed rule that would advance the deployment of connected vehicle technologies throughout the U.S. The Notice would enable V2V communication technology on all new light-duty vehicles, enabling a multitude of new crash-avoidance applications that, once fully deployed, could prevent hundreds of thousands of crashes every year.

DOT to require V2V communications on all light vehicles

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it is going to create a formal path forward for vehicle-to-vehicle communication for light vehicles. This means that NTHSA will start regulatory proposals on how this technology could become mandatory in the future.
