Pat Hindle is responsible for editorial content, article review and special industry reporting for Microwave Journal magazine and its web site in addition to social media and special digital projects. Prior to joining the Journal, Mr. Hindle held various technical and marketing positions throughout New England, including Marketing Communications Manager at M/A-COM (Tyco Electronics), Product/QA Manager at Alpha Industries (Skyworks), Program Manager at Raytheon and Project Manager/Quality Engineer at MIT. Mr. Hindle graduated from Northeastern University - Graduate School of Business Administration and holds a BS degree from Cornell University in Materials Science Engineering.

GSA 5G Ecosystem December 2020 Report

More Than 300 5G Devices Released to Date

The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announced the the number of 5G devices has surpassed 500 for the first time, accompanied by rapid increase in the number of commercially available 5G devices. By the end of November 2020, GSA identified 519 5G devices that had been announced, of which 303 were understood to be commercially available. In the last three months, the number of announced 5G devices has grown by 29.4%, while there has been a 59.5% increase in the number of commercially available 5G devices over the same period.

By end-November 2020, GSA had identified:

  • 20 announced form factors
  • 104 vendors who had announced available or forthcoming 5G devices
  • 519 announced devices

2020 is wrapping up with an acceleration of 5G network and devices releases with GSA previously expecting over 1 billion people (15% of the world's populartion) will be in an area with 5G coverage by the end of this year.
