Problem Solving in Practical Microstrip and Printed Antenna Design

July 20, 2020

At Artech House, we ask our authors what problems their books can help readers solve. In this series, we share what our authors aim to do in their writing. Read on to find out what Anil Pandey, who wrote Practical Microstrip and Printed Antenna Design had to say:

What are some problems your book can help readers solve?

  • Contains hands-on knowledge not available in other books
  • Accessible to readers of many levels, from introductory to specialist
  • Presents shortcuts for engineers who lack antenna knowledge but need no-hassle techniques for designing antennas
  • Incorporates the various antenna design techniques used by industries and academia
  • Many practical designed antenna projects covered in book, which can be used for practice and real-world projects
  • Broad coverage of printed antenna design and applications
  • Latest antenna technologies covering 5G, automobiles, GPS, RFID, Radar, Phased array and many other applications

What are the features of your book and the specific benefits a reader can expect to derive from those features?

  • Practical antenna design covering lot of modern applications like phased array for 5G, automobiles, smartphone, healthcare etc. In this book, there are more than 70 antenna design projects with design dimensions and parameters that can be used by designers for their actual designs and learnings.
  • A good balance between the antenna fundamentals and design of printed antennas. There are many textbooks on antenna theory, mathematical formulations and that is not directly helpful in practical antenna designs. This book is all about practical word antenna design beyond too many formulations and theories.
  • This book is the result of several years of author’s research work in antenna design and development for different RF & Microwave applications. Various antenna design flow, electromagnetic simulation, analysis and measured results are discussed in this book. All Antenna projects discussed in this book are designed, analyzed and simulated using full-wave electromagnetic solvers.

Please name the audiences at which this book is aimed. How will this audience use your book?

  • Antenna Designers of all applications (Mobile phone antenna, RFID, Smart Phone Antenna, Wireless antenna, 5G, Phased array Designs, Automobiles antenna.....): The book chapters include the latest practical antenna design projects in the printed antenna and microstrip antenna field. Antenna designers will learn how to design state-of-art real-world antennas. Designers of planar microstrip antennas and printed antennas who develop antennas for wireless applications, aerospace industry, automobile, healthcare, fifth generation (5G), radars, phased array systems, and many other areas will find this book useful.
  • Researchers and Antenna Engineers both in Industries and Academia: The book is for new antenna engineers as well as for experienced designers, particularly those focusing on real-world practical antenna designs, as well as academics and researchers looking to keep up with this dynamic, changing field. In industry, research labs, and academia, one may find it hard to get a general understanding of the field before engaging in any specialized techniques. Many of the antenna projects and topics chosen for discussion are those that I have found to be useful during my career.
  • Students, Teachers, and Professors: This is a good resource for students, teachers and professors also.  The book begins with the elementary printed and microstrip antenna topics needed by students with no background in antenna theory to study and understand the basic design principles and features of antennas. Several antenna design topics and antenna projects are presented in this book for the first time. These include new designs in the areas of 5G, wearable antennas, automobile antennas, system-level antenna simulation, phased array beamforming designs, meta-material antennas, and fractal antennas.
  • Trainers and Instructors as a guide to train and teach new hires: Senior antenna designers and engineering managers can use this book as a guide to train and teach new hires. New hires and students can learn antenna designs by using the book and design projects discussed in this book and will be able to quickly gain expert-level proficiencies.
  • Telecom network equipment engineers: Telecom network equipment engineers, who desire a stronger sense of antenna principles, as well as electronic engineering students studying electromagnetics, will find this book to be a good learning resource.
