This March 20-22, EDI CON CHINA will take place at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, China. This year’s event brings its unique, high-quality technical conference with learning and training opportunities back to Beijing. In addition to the technical conference, EDI CON CHINA features a full show floor of exhibitors demonstrating the latest in RF, microwave, and high-speed digital products and services. Attendees to EDI CON can find solutions, products, and design ideas that they can put into immediate practice for applications in the communication, defense, computer, consumer electronics, aerospace, and medical industries.
A hallmark of EDI CON is its focus on a technical conference, providing practical information on how to address today’s design challenges using available materials, tools, products, and techniques. All of the technical sessions have been peer reviewed by the EDI CON CHINA Technical Advisory Committee, which is made up of leading experts in RF/microwave and high-speed digital design who are committed to the educational mission of EDI CON. The committee reviews and evaluates submitted abstracts to determine their quality and impact, and these committee members are essential to helping EDI CON reach the highest levels of quality and relevance.
This year, EDI CON CHINA is partnering again with the American Certification Body (ACB) Inc. to offer ACB regulatory training (March 20) and EMC Training (March 21). These sessions require additional registration, which is explained in the EDI CON CHINA registration portal.
Technical Conference
Each day of the conference features 40-minute workshops and panels, as well as 20-minute technical sessions. Papers and workshops in the conference cover simulation, design, layout, test, and verification across topics such as 5G, automotive electronics, radar, antennas, EMC/EMI, IoT, amplifiers, serial interfaces, and the latest semiconductor material technologies. The tracks for this year’s event include: RF & Microwave Design, 5G, Radar & Defense, Amplifier Design, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, EMC/EMI, Simulation & Modeling, and Test & Measurement. This year’s conference features 39 sponsored workshops and 64 technical sessions given by recognized experts from industry-leading companies and universities.
For example, this year’s 5G track begins on March 20th at 12:05 with a featured keynote from Peter Rabbeni, Senior Director of Business Development for RF at GLOBALFOUNDRIES, who will talk about "Mobile Radio Transformation in the Age of 5G: A Perspective on Technologies and Solutions.” Other highlights from the 5G track include the 5G Massive MIMO panel, moderated by Microwave Journal’s Patrick Hindle, which will look at how the first deployments of 5G for mobile applications and how to overcome the challenges from a design and test perspective. This panel will take place on March 20th at 14:15. Hindle will be moderating another panel on Thursday March 22nd at 11:55 on 5G mmWave OTA testing. That day also features numerous technical sessions on OTA testing topics leading up to the panel.
Microwave Journal’s technical editor, Gary Lerude, will moderate the panel GaN Goes Global, on Wednesday March 21st at 13:05. Long a favorite of EDICON attendees, this year’s “GaN Panel” will address the questions: Has GaN overtaken LDMOS for wireless infrastructure? Have the advantages of GaN on Si moved from PowerPoint to reality? Is GaN challenging GaAs and silicon at millimeter wave frequencies? What performance advantages does GaN offer for switches, mixers and low noise amplifiers? Have Chinese companies established a competitive technology and production capability?
At EDI CON CHINA 2017, one of the most popular sessions was the panel on RF Energy, and the RF Energy Alliance’s Klaus Werner returns this year to continue the discussion on Thursday March 22nd at 9:05 in a panel called Solid State RF Energy—Inroads to the Industrial Market. This panel of distinguished speakers will discuss technical developments and opportunities in the industrial markets. The panel will also define the broad range of potential applications, the go-to-market strategies and the cross-industry collaboration needed to swiftly penetrate the industrial market.
This year also features a short course presented by renowned signal integrity expert Eric Bogatin, college professor, author, editor at Signal Integrity Journal and SI Evangelist at Teledyne LeCroy. Bogatin will present a half-day short course on Thursday March 22nd on Essential Principles of Power Integrity Measurements, providing a framework for engineers working in power integrity. Attendees will see demonstrations on actual test boards using high definition oscilloscopes (HDO).
Plenary Keynote Talks
This year, EDI CON CHINA will host two days of plenary keynote sessions with invited speakers. On Tuesday, March 20th, at 9:30 the keynote session focusing on 5G begins with Dr. Ying Peng, DaTang Telecommunication Technology & Industry Holding Co. Ltd, followed by Giampaolo Tardioli, Keysight Technologies; Christoph Pointner, Rohde & Schwarz; and Luke Schreier National Instruments. On Wednesday, March 21st at 9:30, the keynote session focusing on innovation begins with Dr. Guochun (GC) Liang, Pivotone Communications followed by Dr. Klaus Werner, RF Energy Alliance and Rainer Horn, SpaceTec Partners.
Exhibition & Networking
After the plenary sessions, attendees are welcome to explore the exhibit hall floor, which is home to exhibits from nearly 100 exhibitors in the RF, microwave, and high-speed digital industries, including Keysight Technologies, Rohde & Schwarz, National Instruments, Focus Microwaves Group, Maury Microwave, MiniCircuits, Sichuan YiFeng, WIN Semiconductors, and Xiamen San’an Integrated Circuit Co. The exhibition hall is open on March 20, 21, and 22.
Each day features sponsored coffee and tea breaks on the show floor. At the end of the first day of the conference and exhibition, delegates can enjoy a welcome reception sponsored by Keysight Technologies. At the end of day 2 of the conference, all attendees can enjoy a happy hour on the exhibition floor.
EMC Training
This year, EDI CON China 2018 will also host two all-day training sessions from the American Certification Body (ACB) Inc. The training will provide education for Chinese test engineers, R&D personnel as well as certification/regulatory professionals in the wireless/RF and EMC industries. Day one of the training will be 5-hour regulatory training focused on basic knowledge of FCC/ISED/CE rules and current updates to the regulations. Day two will be a 5-hour session on iNARTE EMC Training, providing EMC fundamentals to help attendees prepare for the iNARTE EMC exam. All of these special partner programs are available in the EDI CON China registration portal.
