By the end of 2015, China LTE subscriptions will exceed the U.S., reaching 500 M

 By the end of 2014, China gained almost 100 million LTE subscriptions in the first year of full LTE commercialization, demonstrating an accelerating growth momentum, according to ABI Research. Thanks to the first-mover advantages, China Mobile seized almost 90% share of the total LTE market in China. “Since the other two China mobile operators—China Unicom and China Telecom—were granted preferred FDD-LTE licenses in March 2015, it is expected that China will overtake the United States to become the largest 4G market in the world, accumulating 500 million LTE subscriptions, or 36.5% of the domestic cellular subscriptions in 2015,” comments Marina Lu, Research Analyst at ABI Research

ABI study says 5G in 2020 will be rare, over 100 million subscribers by 2025

According to a new market data forecasts from ABI Research, it will take more than 5 years for 5G to reach 100 million subscriber mark—2 years longer than 4G. 4G subscriber growth was much faster than with previous generations, fueled by the capabilities of increasingly powerful smartphones and the availability of 4G devices. 5G subscriber growth will likely be a bit more muted at first due to the increased complexity of 5G cells and networks, but will pick up in 2023.
