Amplifier Technology has announced its latest man-portable amplifier, the 8780 lightweight broadband power amplifier with GaN technology, which spans all frequencies from 2.5 to 6.0 GHz. It will typically be used for personal protection and to counter the threat of IEDs.
The large operational frequency range of this device means that it can be used to counter any threat from RF equipment, including mobile phones, 3.5G, 4G, WiMAX and RADAR, while the high power output enables it to operate across a wide geographic radius.
The 8780 measures 65 by 120 by 25 mm. It has a minimum power output of 25 W, at which level its efficiency is at least 15 percent or higher and its gain is 47 dBm, yet the harmonic level is relatively low at <-10 dBc. The unit is specified with a maximum supply current of 4.5 A, 28 V at 25 W.
Amplifier Technology will supply the 8780 amplifier for Own Equipment Manufacture, where it is most likely to be utilized in Electronic Warfare and counter-IED applications.
