RFI Global Services Ltd. has extended the scope of its UKAS accredited SAR test facility to include Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) products. In order to further reduce test times and costs to customers, the company has doubled the size of its test facility and invested in more phantoms. It has also added a further TWIN SAM V4.0 phantom to test both handheld and body-mounted devices and to enable simultaneous frequency tests. This additional equipment will reduce test times by as much as 50 percent.
TETRA is the set of standards developed by the European Telecommunications Standardisation Institute (ETSI) that describes a common mobile radio communications infrastructure throughout Europe. SAR measurements indicate the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed into human tissue from a radio transmitter. They are important in helping manufacturers demonstrate compliance with the ‘health & safety’ essential requirements under the R&TTE Directive.
Having extended the scope of its facility, RFI claims to be able to test the widest range of products, including private mobile radios, medical devices, base stations and microwave products.
