Harris Stratex Networks has opened its newest office in Sydney, Australia. The company will supply operators with cost-effective wireless transport solutions to enable customers to transport high-speed, carrier-class Ethernet data, alongside traditional TDM traffic, to support network migration to next-generation IP services.

Harris Stratex will also be able to provide enhanced turnkey services, including radio and IP network planning, engineering and deployment services, and technical service and support for customers in the region. With major Australian operators expanding and rolling out 3G networks and the government planning a $4.7 B initiative to connect 98 percent of the population to high-speed data services though the National Broadband Network initiative, Sydney is a key location for business presence in the Pacific telecommunications arena.

Harris Stratex Networks has been providing wireless backhaul solutions in the Australian market for more than 20 years and the new location will support the company’s extensive customer base, including a number of major contracts with fixed, mobile, broadcast media and WiMAX operators in the region.

“The presence of this new facility marks our commitment to customers in the region to supply fast, reliable services,” said Brendan Cochrane, Harris Stratex country manager for Australia. “The remote geographic location of Australia can isolate the country from the rest of the world at times. To be successful here, we are following through on our commitment to the market and the Australian people by having a significant local presence.”
