DragonWave Inc., a supplier of next-generation wireless networks, and NextWave Broadband Inc., a subsidiary of NextWave Wireless Inc., a global supplier of advanced mobile broadband products, technologies and network solutions, announced the signing of a Strategic Network Solutions Agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, NextWave will adopt DragonWave’s AirPair and Horizon products as its preferred wireless backhaul solution and will partner with DragonWave to supply service providers worldwide with fully integrated, end-to-end, mobile broadband and transport network solutions. In addition, the two companies have agreed to collaborate on the development of the next-generation wireless backhaul products and technologies.
”NextWave has made significant investments in developing truly competitive end-to-end network solutions that support a flat IP architecture, and are designed to reduce CAPEX and OPEX while delivering true broadband performance to its service provider customers. The ability to cost-effectively backhaul broadband traffic through ultra high capacity links is a critical element of achieving the overall cost targets of 4G networks that require significantly different network architectures, deployment plans and RF designs as compared to 3G networks,” said Allen Salmasi, president and CEO of NextWave Wireless Inc. “By integrating DragonWave’s backhaul products into their mobile broadband solutions, our GO Networks subsidiary with its carrier-class WiFi network solutions, and our IPWireless subsidiary with its TD-CDMA and forthcoming WiMAX-based network products, will be even better positioned to offer cost-effective and high performance network solutions on a global basis. In addition, our two European subsidiaries, Inquam Broadband and WiMAX Telecom, will also offer our mobile broadband solutions to service providers, especially in markets where these subsidiaries have wireless broadband spectrum holdings such as Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia and Slovakia.”
“We are excited by NextWave’s vision of the evolution of wireless broadband networks and their focus on high capacity, IP optimized transport solutions,” said Peter Allen, president and CEO of DragonWave. “DragonWave is delighted to be able to partner with NextWave as they introduce their end-to-end mobile broadband solutions in the US and across the globe.”
