Hittite Microwave Corp. has introduced a GaAs MMIC x2 active frequency multiplier that is ideal for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios, VSAT, telecom, test instrumentation, military, space and fiber optics applications from 8 to 21 GHz.
The HMC561 is a broadband x2 active frequency multiplier die that utilizes GaAs PHEMT technology and accepts input drive levels from 0 to +6 dBm. When driven with a +5 dBm input signal, the HMC561 provides +17 dBm typical output power from 8 to 21 GHz, and the Fo and 3Fo isolations are 15 dBc.
This compact MMIC multiplier also delivers low additive SSB phase noise of -139 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, making it ideal for use in LO multiplier chains for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios. The HMC561 is ideal for driving the LO port of many of Hittite’s mixers, including the HMC523 GaAs MMIC I/Q mixer, which operates from 15 to 23.6 GHz.
The HMC561 x2 active frequency multiplier die is also available in a RoHS-compliant 3x3 mm leadless QFN package as the HMC561LP3. These multipliers complement Hittite’s broad line of active and passive frequency multipliers, which cover output frequencies from 1.4 to 46 GHz.
