Intensifying the transfer of know-how, promoting innovative research and development projects, and improving the opportunities for newcomers are just three reasons why Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has signed an extensive sponsorship agreement with the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
The Munich-based electronics group will provide the university’s institute of communications engineering and institute of radio frequency engineering and electronics with high-tech equipment.
The University of Karlsruhe conducts R&D at a very high level of quality and holds a leading position among German universities.
Together with the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich and the Munich Technical University, it forms the trio of universities currently admitted to the excellence program created by the German Federal Government.
Rohde & Schwarz is keen to be involved with and promote the close cooperation between universities and industry. Hubert Amend, head of the company’s Human Resource Division, commented, "As a global market leader in the field of mobile radio test and measurement, we see our equipment optimally put to use there." Professor Horst Hippler, president of the University of Karlsruhe, likewise emphasized the positive effect of the collaboration, saying, "To be at the forefront in research and development, we need to be in close contact with industry."
The sponsorship is the latest example of Rohde & Schwarz’ cooperation with universities — 2007 is the fourth year of the company’s case study contest, in conjunction with the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE), which gives German students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in practice. The company also sponsors the EEEfCOM innovation award on a yearly basis.
