The latest result of Galileo Avionica’s commercial strategy in India is the adoption of the company’s precision approach radar, PAR 2080 C, by the Indian Air Force.
The first radar recently started operating at the Indian Air Force Pune Base, while final set-up activities of identical systems, already installed in four other Indian bases, are in progress, with all being planned to start operating by the end of April 2007.
The global economic value of the program for Galileo Avionica, a Finmeccanica company, is said to be more than €30 M. The company’s contract with the Indian Air Force foresees the supply of 17 systems, 12 of which are to be consigned in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautic Ltd. of Hyderabad, which is involved with their final assembly.
Also, the Indian Navy ordered the PAR X-band radar system for its Goa Naval base.
The system assists military pilots during approach phases and makes precise instrumental landing possible even in bad weather conditions and poor visibility.
It is able to manage a large number of aircraft simultaneously (up to 32) within its field of view.
