e2v technologies, a specialist developer and manufacturer of high technology components and subsystems, announced a $16.2 M contract renewal to supply Varian Medical Systems Inc., headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, with electronic tube products for incorporation into linear accelerators, primarily for use in radiotherapy cancer treatment systems.
These electronic tubes form a key enabling technology within linear accelerators, generating and delivering the microwave power required to produce the X-rays used both in the imaging and radiation treatment of tumours as well as cargo screening applications.
e2v has been supporting the radiotherapy market for in excess of 30 years and works closely with OEM customers to improve the performance and reliability of their systems. The new Varian contract is for the delivery over a two-year period but the agreement has the potential to increase in value over the term through additional orders.
Keith Attwood, chief executive of e2v, commented, "This contract renewal with Varian represents another example of our long-term commitment to work closely with strategic partners in developing enabling solutions for applications as diverse as radiotherapy and cargo screening."
