Sivers Semiconductors AB announced that its subsidiary Sivers Wireless has won a new design win with a North American telecom company. This new customer has decided to develop products for the unlicensed 5G mmWave market by using Sivers 60 GHz technology.
A cornerstone in the customer’s offering will be the 2D beam steering module from Sivers Wireless, the BFM06009, which enables flexibility and robustness during deployment and operation of the new products. The BFM06009 is unique as it is the only widely commercially available module with electronic beamforming in two dimensions that can be used over the full 57 to 71 GHz frequency band, maintaining full performance.
The unlicensed 60 GHz band is well-suited for quick broadband network deployments, where gigabit throughput is requested by the end users.
Anders Storm, CEO of Sivers Semiconductors, said, “We continue to add more 5G design wins, and this is our 25th. With the government funded broadband investments in the U.S. like the New Infrastructure Fund and the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, the opportunities for Sivers in unlicensed 5G have increased substantially over the last six months. This customer is yet another example of our successful offering for the North American market and another justification for us to be opening an office in the U.S.”
