Anokiwave and hiSky have announced a collaboration to develop the next-generation of low-cost, voice/data/IoT terminals for satellite communications (SATCOM). hiSky’s Smartellite™ solutions, using Anokiwave RFICs, will enable a small, portable and cost-effective flat panel terminal for mass market applications.
hiSky’s existing Smartellite terminals operate at either Ku- or K/Ka-Band and are compatible with many LEO, MEO and GEO constellations. The terminals are easily used by individuals or enterprises with complete network management system. Using a dedicated app on any mobile device, users and organizations can communicate anywhere, anytime.
Shahar Kravitz, hiSky co-founder and CEO, said, “hiSky brings innovative technology to the field of voice/data and IoT satellite communications, offering mobile connectivity that is affordable, portable and easy to use.”
For the next-generation terminal, hiSky is contributing its recently announced low-cost, performance modem ASIC, which will provide performance at the lowest cost. Anokiwave is providing its Ku- and K/Ka-Band silicon beamformer ICs for the small, flat panel active antenna.
Anokiwave’s RFICs will enable hiSky to improve the RF performance of the terminal, reduce array size, simplify thermal management and incorporate unique digital features in the array design. Based on prior generations of its RFICs, Anokiwave’s new designs will improve performance while reducing IC and system cost by an order of magnitude.
“Overcoming the barriers that have, until now, kept people from using satellite communications for more than just a brief emergency call, hiSky’s technology and Anokiwave’s ICs are enabling quick and easy connectivity, even in the most remote and extreme locations. Anokiwave’s technology of silicon core ICs and system-in-package solutions are the most advanced in the market, allowing hiSky to provide the smallest, lowest cost and highest performance of phased array antennas integrated into the Smartellite terminals,” said Kravitz.
Abhishek Kapoor, Anokiwave VP of sales, said, “Anokiwave and hiSky have been close partners for years and the relationship between the two goes beyond supplier and customer. Together, we are pushing limits of performance and cost reductions.”
