China Unicom Beijing and Huawei have jointly completed the world's first commercial adoption of the 5G LampSite 300 MHz digital indoor system at the Beijing Long Distance Call Building. The system supports network sharing between China Unicom Beijing and China Telecom Beijing and provides a downlink perceived rate of up to 3.4 Gbps over a single headend in multi-user scenarios.
This hails a new phase for both parties in providing users with faster services over stronger 5G networks and bringing industries fresh momentum of transformation in 2020. The commercial adoption marks an excellent start for the "5G Capital" innovation project between China Unicom Beijing and Huawei and also the first joint accomplishment of the 2020 "5G City" series city projects. It represents a new, significant breakthrough for China Unicom Beijing following its successful launch of the "5G NEXT" initiative in 2018.
On March 13, 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China indicated further plans in promoting the new applications of 5G in telemedicine, distance education, online office and other industries, boosting the construction of major industrial communications projects, and accelerating the new infrastructure deployment for 5G, IoT, big data, AI and smart city.
Beijing is one of the key cities for the first wave of 5G commercial adoption. China Unicom Beijing is committed in building leading 5G networks and providing premium services for users in the city. In 2018, it listed "100 percent transition to digital indoor systems" as an important strategy for constructing indoor networks and preparing for 5G.
China Unicom Beijing has been in close collaboration with Huawei in improving indoor 5G coverage capabilities, with a number of major cooperation projects also completed. These include the world's largest 4G digital indoor coverage network at the Beijing Capital International Airport, the world's first 5G digital indoor system at the Beijing Long Distance Call Building, and the world's largest 5G smart airport at the Daxing International Airport. Through these projects, the two parties have achieved many milestones in innovating indoor coverage networks.
In the first year of 5G commercial adoption, the two parties successfully brought high-quality 5G network services and industry applications to many important scenarios and locations. Examples include the 2019 International Horticultural Exhibition parks, Headquarters of China Media Group, Bird's Nest, National Convention Center, People's Hall, China International Exhibition Center and National Museum.
5G is now ushering in a new phase in terms of providing full-network coverage. China Unicom Beijing and Huawei will continue to collaborate in implementing the "5G Capital" project. This move allows the two parties to jointly continue the verification and commercial applications of the latest 5G technologies and business models. It will further enable them to explore and develop superior 5G networks.
The deployment of Huawei's latest 5G LampSite 300 MHz ultra-bandwidth product at the Beijing Long Distance Call Building sets a new example for cooperation between the two parties. The field tests with Huawei's Mate 30 Pro 5G smartphones displayed a downlink perceived rate of up to 3.4 Gbps over a single headend in multi-user scenarios for both China Unicom and China Telecom users.
The 5G LampSite module allows for an ultra-bandwidth of 300 MHz between the 3.3 and 3.6 GHz spectrum of the C-band and 4T4R multi-antenna technology, enabling mobile network capacity to increase by three times. The product further supports network sharing among operators, offering additional support for accelerating 5G network construction in heavy-traffic scenarios.
