Dr. Jaume Anguera, cofounder and CTO of Fractus Antennas, has been named an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to small and multi-band antennas for wireless communication devices.

Anguera’s most salient contribution to the field is Virtual Antenna™ technology, which enables fully functional multi-band wireless connectivity to smartphones and IoT devices using miniature, off-the-shelf antenna boosters that replace traditional customized antennas. Virtual Antenna technology has led to the development of mXTEND™ products for various wireless applications.

Anguera was the lead inventor of Virtual Antenna technology, working with his colleagues Dr. Aurora Andújar and Dr. Carles Puente.

Anguera serves as a professor at Ramon LLull University, where he teaches antenna theory and is a member of the GRITS research group. He has directed the master’s and doctoral theses of more than 100 students, many receiving awards for their work.

An inventor, Anguera has received more than 130 patents, most of them licensed to telecommunications companies, and has written more than 230 papers and six books. He is associate editor of the IEEE Open Journal on Antennas and Propagation and a reviewer for several IEEE scientific journals.

Anguera has been a principal researcher or participant on more than 21 competitive research projects financed by the Spanish Ministry and the European Commission, receiving funding of more than €6 million.

The IEEE grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors to recognize a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership, recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
