Expand Power Supply Current for Almost Any DC-to-DC Regulator and Improve Performance Using a Multiphase Expander
The LT8550 and LT8551 are multiphase load current expanders for buck and boost dc-to-dc converters, respectively. Each expander works in tandem with a synchronous buck or boost dc-to-dc converter to increase its load current capability by adding additional power channels. The channels are clocked mutually out of phase to reduce ripple current and filtering capacitance, and channels are added without the need to route sensitive feedback and control signals.
The LT8550 and LT8551's integrated gate drivers support up to four phases per device and up to 18 with multiple ICs. Accurate current monitoring balances dc and transient current sharing amongst channels.
