Fairview Microwave Inc., a supplier of on-demand microwave and RF components, introduces a new portfolio of flexible waveguides operating up to 40 GHz over nine popular frequency bands. These new flexible waveguides, also known as “flexguides”, are most commonly deployed as a pliable signal conduit in misaligned waveguide systems where traditional rigid waveguide sections are no longer possible to use.
Fairview’s new flexible (and twistable) waveguide family consists of 36 models ranging in size from WR-137 as low as 5.85 GHz to WR-28 up to 40 GHz. Typical VSWR for these flexible waveguides ranges from 1.05:1 up to 1.35:1 depending on waveguide size and frequency and insertion loss performance is as low as 0.07 dB. These waveguide sections can flex in both the E and H planes and will also twist, making them a great solution in many different types of applications.
The flexible waveguides from Fairview utilize helically wound silver coated brass strips surrounded by a flexible and twistable neoprene sleeve. The ends of the waveguide are terminated with brass flanges available in nine waveguide sizes and multiple flange styles. These flexible waveguide components can be ordered in standard lengths including 12, 24 and 36 inches with same-day shipping.
“Flexible waveguides are an invaluable component in waveguide systems that are not always properly aligned which can result in an impeded signal and unwanted distortion,” explains Brian McCutcheon, Vice President and General Manager at Fairview Microwave. “With constrained schedules and budgets, custom waveguide solutions are not always possible or practical, making Fairview’s off-the-shelf flexible waveguides an ideal solution.”
