It has been a cold and snowy week in New England, but I have had the good fortune to be in warmer climates, missing the blizzard of 2015 and enjoying the mild weather of Phoenix, Ariz. and Santa Clara, Calif. While I was not fortunate enough to get tickets to the Super Bowl, I did have the opportunity to visit the good folks at Rogers Corp. and to do some reconnaissance in Phoenix as the annual IEEE MTT-S IMS event rapidly approaches. The city has added a lot of attractions to the area around the convention center since the last time the event was here and should prove to be an excellent venue for our annual Big Game. Hopefully it will be a little cooler this time around as well. I travelled from Phoenix to Santa Clara for DesignCon, which drew a good crowd and presented some impressive new products and technologies. More on that show later.
We have a blizzard of activity coming up for our advertisers in the next few months. We’re currently working on our March issue, with editorial focus on “Test & Measurement.” This is always a popular issue and features bonus distribution at several events, including Microwaves & RF (Paris), WAMICON (Florida) and EDI CON (China). The deadlines are February 13th for ad orders and the 18th for ad material. You’ll find additional information in our Ad Bulletin and in Pat Hindle’s article in this edition of the WaveGuide.
Our annual “Cables & Connectors” supplement will be mailed with the March issue to our full circulation of 50,000 readers and will be distributed at the IEEE MTT-S IMS and at the IWCE (Las Vegas) for added exposure. The deadlines are March 11th for ad orders and the 17th for ad material. Advertisers placing a half page ad or larger will get a bonus “Literature Showcase” feature in this publication. The deadline for submissions is February 6th so if you plan to advertise in the supplement, contact your sales rep for details.
The March/April issue of MWJ China will serve as the show issue for the Electronic Design Innovation Conference (EDI CON) that will take place in Beijing on April 14-16. The issue will be distributed in all delegate bags and on the show floor and will also be distributed at electronica China in Shanghai (March 17-19). Deadlines are February 23rd for ad orders and March 2nd for ad material. As a new feature, all exhibitors at EDI CON who advertise in this issue will be eligible for inclusion in the “Product Showcase.” If you’re looking for exposure to the Chinese market, this is a great opportunity.
With IMS taking place in May this year, our show issue has been moved to the April issue. This is always our biggest issue of the year and features bonus distribution through the delegate bags and on the show floor. We will again offer exhibiting advertisers the added bonus of a “Product Showcase” feature and will highlight advertisers on the exhibition floor plan pages of the issue. The deadlines will be March 11th for ad orders and the 18th for ad material, but plan early to ensure inclusion in the advertiser-only editorial benefits that are exclusive to this issue. We are also taking orders for the Online Show Daily newsletters that we deploy before, during and after IMS. These are exclusive sponsorships that allow your company added exposure and drives traffic to your booth. There are only a limited number of sponsorships available, so inquire soon if interested.
Looking further ahead, we have added a new “Aerospace & Defense” supplement to the May issue. Look for more details in next month’s WaveGuide or contact your sales representative.
I’m pleased to announce that we have added a new video platform to our website. This platform organizes the videos by topic, application, company and events and allows the editors to aggregate videos seamlessly from other sources such as YouTube and Vimeo. Companies can upload their existing videos and add new ones as they are produced. Cost-effective sponsorships are available on an annual basis and offer the opportunity for video demos/interviews at IMS and European Microwave Week, shot by professional videographers supplied by Microwave Journal. Of course, we have our Frequency Matters RF and microwave video update series being produced bi-weekly which can also be sponsored. Again, your sales rep can fill you in on the details. I expect this new feature to go live in the next few weeks.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the numerous upcoming events. In the meantime, be well and stay warm. I’m hoping the Groundhog doesn’t see his shadow and Spring arrives early.
Regards,
Carl Sheffres
