Huawei and Etisalat jointly showcased the future concept of 5G mobile broadband services during the GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was the first time 5G technology had been presented in the region.
“Etisalat has taken great steps to lead on technology and communication services in the Middle East. We are pleased to offer this opportunity for the public to see the latest 5G technologies and the ongoing research and investment we are doing to build quality connections,” Hatem Bamatraf, Chief Technology Officer of Etisalat Group commented at the exhibition. “It is already clear how this technology will have a fundamental impact and on transforming the ICT industry. We are able to demonstrate how 5G will transform daily lives for millions of mobile users.”
The interactive 5G demonstration showcased an 115 Gbps data transmission rate capability, which is faster than current mobile networks. An increase of capability will support the connection requirements for the Internet of Things, 4D film, MirrorSys and Vehicular Telematics.
"Providing ubiquitous connectivity and inspired communication experiences to the public, the development of 5G broadband services is not only a step-change for the telecommunications industry, it will also enable more efficient, seamless, safe and enriched communication experiences" said Yang Chaobin, chief marketing officer of Huawei Wireless Network Business Unit.
The 5G service demonstration follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed by Huawei and Etisalat earlier this year. The companies agreed to join forces and conduct trials for ultra-fast mobile services in the Middle East over the next five years.
