The busiest month of the year for RF/microwave industry trade shows has just started. First up is European Microwave Week (EuMW) taking place Oct 5-10 in Rome. This is the largest microwave trade show outside of North America with an exhibition, MicroApps, Workshops, Defense Forum and more. While traffic varies some depending on the country it is held in, it attracts most of key decision makers in the industry and has a very high quality conference.
During the same first week in Oct there is also Military Communications (MILCOM) in Baltimore and Association of Old Crows (AOC) in Washington DC which focuses on EW applications. The following week is the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) event which covers applications of antenna, radar and other electromagnetic measurement technologies. It takes place Oct 12-17 in Tuscan, AZ.
Then the last week in October is the China International Conference & Exhibition on Microwave and Antenna (IME/China) taking place April 29-31 in Shanghai. This is primarily an exhibition that is about half EMC/EMI companies and half microwave companies but one of the largest in China. That completes your trip around the world in October for trade shows. If you plan to attend any of these events, Microwave Journal will have representatives attending each one so look us up.
On the editorial side, the October Government and Military Electronics issue will feature some very interesting technology from the DARPA sponsored program, Mobile Hotspots. Authors from Millitech and L-3 Communications West describe the performance benchmarks they set through the development of a system for a scalable, mobile, self-forming and managing network of millimeter-wave air-to-air and air-to-ground gigabit class data links utilizing UAVs.
The November Passive and Control Components issue will feature various new filter technologies that the Dover Companies are working on to meet the current market challenges such as agile tuning, co-site interference and more. This issue will also feature the return of the Mobius Resonator developed by Drs. Rohde and Poddar at Synergy Microwave that was our cover story last year and generated much conversation about their new approach to oscillator design. Also in November is our Mobile Communications and Infrastructure supplement that will feature mmWave technology for next generation 5G communication systems written by Ted Rappaport of NYU WIRELESS, host of the Brooklyn 5G Summit.
To finish off the year, our December Industrial, Scientific and Medical Applications issue will feature a cover story that tackles one of the hottest topics of the year, the Internet of Things (IoT). The story will be made up of a contribution from Linear Technology covering IoT for industrial applications and a second piece from Si Labs covering IoT for consumer applications including low power consumption design.
