EDI CON 2013 (March 12-14, Beijing, China), the industry-driven event for RF, microwave and high speed digital electronic design organized by Microwave Journal and Horizon House has announced its line-up of speakers for the opening plenary session to be held on March 12th at the Beijing International Convention Center. The speakers include: Honorary Chair Professor Song Junde (Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications); Guy Séné, President Electronic Measurement Group, Agilent Technologies (Platinum Sponsor); Bertram R. Arbesser-Rastburg, Head of the Electromagnetics and Space Environment Division of the European Space Agency and Guang Yang, Senior Analyst, Strategy Analytics. Each keynote speaker offers a unique perspective on the opportunities and technical challenges for RF, Microwave and high-speed design in China and throughout the world. The opening ceremony will emphasize the goals of this new conference to provide technical development for working RF, microwave and high-speed digital design engineers.

Honorary Chair, Dr. Song Junde will begin the plenary session with a presentation, “The Present and Future of RF/Microwave & High-speed Digital Devices and Systems”,  focusing on the architectural aspects of various communication systems, derivation of the required set of supporting features and consideration of the tremendous advances in cost-efficient manufacturing capabilities of microwave and RF products. Dr. Song’s presentation will compare and contrast these requirements with the features and support available in current generation systems and outline the opportunities and challenges for microwave technologies.

As President of Agilent’s Electronic Measurement Group, Guy Séné oversees business operations of the company’s Electronic Measurement and Semiconductor & Board Test segments. In his presentation, “Nurturing Design Innovation For China’s Future”, Mr. Sene will discuss his company’s long history in China and its vision for an industry-led conference serving the high-frequency electronic design community through a technical program that focuses on applications, emerging technologies and practical engineering solutions.

Bertram R. Arbesser-Rastburg, who served as the Chairman of the European Microwave Week in Amsterdam this past October, will share his insights on the future of microwave technology for satellite communication and navigation systems in his presentation, “Microwaves in Space - a European Perspective”. Mr. Arbesser-Rastburg will give examples of advanced microwave technology use in Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation. This talk will explore how Earth observation microwave instruments are used for active remote sensing (like synthetic aperture radars, cloud radars and altimeters) and for passive observations (radiometers and profilers extending up to hundreds of GHz). 

Guang Yang is a Senior Analyst based in Beijing, China where he provides deep insights into the operator, service provider, regulatory and device dynamics in this critical market. In his presentation, “Mobile Broadband Network in China and the Enlightenment from Global Trend”, Mr. Yang will discuss how service providers must look to new technologies to find ways to reduce operating costs, expand into new markets, and improve profitability as traditional offerings become commoditized.
