Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Turkey's largest government-owned city planning and public services authority, has contracted Harris Corp. to supply its TRuepoint™ microwave radios as part of a major upgrade of the local voice and data infrastructure. With the continual growth of the district's public services infrastructure, which includes transport, water treatment and law enforcement, the IMM needs a telecommunications network that can handle high levels of traffic and can be deployed rapidly. The radios will enable enhanced capacity of up to 155 Mbits/s throughout the municipality.
The deal was secured by Setkom, Harris' local distributor, with deployment by systems integrator Aselsan, expected to be completed this month. The Municipality selected Harris TRuepoint radios for their scalability, enabling the authority to expand capacity as required. It has many new projects planned, and the enhanced network will provide reliable, high quality communications across the area to enable these objectives to be accomplished along with further development of services that will benefit and enrich the community.
"The evolution of voice and data services has led to ever-greater demand for bandwidth in local governments," said Viviane Walti, Harris Microwave Communications Division managing director of European operations. "TRuepoint radios can be rapidly deployed to meet today’s needs, and are scalable to meet the needs of tomorrow."
