Rohde & Schwarz presents first MBMS test scenario for R&S CRTU-W Protocol Tester
Munich, 02 March 2007 — Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) is an expansion of the UMTS mobile radio standard which makes it possible to transfer multimedia data such as mobile TV or MMS to many users simultaneously. Thus, in comparison to other methods such as streaming, the network load is significantly lower. Rohde & Schwarz has now developed an MBMS test scenario for the R&S CRTU-W protocol tester which allows manufacturers of mobile radio user equipment and chipsets to check the functioning of their products. The company is among the first to provide such a solution for the development of MBMS-capable user equipment. With an expansion of the R&S CRTU-WT02 option, the MBMS test scenario can be implemented with up to four transmission channels. For this purpose, in addition to the R&S CRTU-W, only an internal data generator or external media server is necessary. The transmission channels support data rates of up to 128 kbit/s or 256 kbit/s, and the data rate can be defined as desired for each channel. Since the solution includes extensive logging capabilities, functional errors of user equipment can be easily analyzed. The expanded R&S CRTU-WT02 option is now available from Rohde & Schwarz and can also be installed on existing CRTU-W protocol testers by means of software update at a later date.
