Rohde & Schwarz presents new instrument family for network analysis: The R&S ZVL – cost-efficient, compact, and powerful
Munich, 26 March 2007 — Rohde & Schwarz is again merging core areas of competency from two business fields. With the R&S ZVL, the company presents the lightest and smallest vector network analyzer on the market – if desired, including spectrum analysis. The result is a unique all-purpose instrument that offers the scope of network-analysis functions of the established R&S ZVB and R&S ZVA instrument families. The newcomer thus includes features that are otherwise only available in larger and more expensive instruments – wide frequency ranges from 9 kHz to 3 GHz or 6 GHz, a large dynamic range of 123 dB, and bidirectional two-port measurement architecture. In future, it will also be possible to integrate the entire range of functions of the R&S FSL spectrum analyzer via a software option. The compact R&S ZVL from Rohde & Schwarz redefines network analysis. The new network analyzer's favorable price and scope of functions in combination with its excellent RF characteristics make it the ideal instrument for RF circuit development. Its dynamic range of 123 dB, bidirectional measurement capability, powerful analysis functions such as the multi-trace display, as well as extensive marker functions make it fit for measurement requirements of base station duplex filters. Moreover, due to its low weight of 7 kg and battery operation, it is also suitable for mobile applications. In production, the space-saving R&S ZVL provides high throughput. For this purpose, the instrument includes a 100BaseT LAN interface as remote-control interface. A GPIB interface is available as an option. In many applications, the R&S ZVL-K1 option will soon make it possible to do without an additional spectrum analyzer, for example when producing amplifiers for mobile radio applications. In this case, both reflection and spectral measurements such as adjacent-channel power or third-order intercept (T.O.I.) can be performed. In future, when equipped with the appropriate options for spectrum analysis, the R&S ZVL will even allow the measurement of EVM on UMTS, WLAN, or WiMAX signals. The R&S ZVL offers service technicians an RF analyzer that is independent of the AC supply. Since the instrument makes it possible to perform network analysis measurements vectorially, users need not restrict themselves to scalar measurements for reasons of cost. With the optional spectrum analysis and an R&S power sensor, which is directly controlled by the R&S ZVL (R&S FSL-K9 option), Rohde & Schwarz will provide a more cost-efficient and flexible solution, considering that otherwise three measuring instruments are necessary as basic equipment for service applications. The R&S ZVL's two models – 9 kHz to 3 GHz or 6 GHz – are now available from Rohde & Schwarz. The R&S ZVL-K1 spectrum analysis option is in the pipeline.
